Episode Plotting

New episode ideas, planning, and discussions.

General Notes

Each episode has a main plot and theme that ties the various plots together. Some episodes will have a finite ending where all elements of the story have been completed. Others will continue through several episodes before reaching a conclusion.  Episodes are timeframe and event driven. As a general rule, each episode will be set during a one-month in game period. This is not absolute and carved in stone.

  • Main Plots: This is a main plot that will thread throughout the various character stories that we write. Not all characters will be impacted by every main plot. However, the goal when creating a main plot should be to allow as much participation as possible. It is preferred that main plots not span more than three episodes before being concluded.
  • Subplots: Each episode can contain numerous subplots (or character driven plots). These should be posted in Plot Requests. Subplots, backstories, or character plots are all used interchangeably. These stories will often span several episodes and even be ongoing throughout the game, evolving as other events evolve.
  • Episode Themes: An episode's theme is just the underlying idea that Players can use to help form their character plots. For example, if the main plot involves the search for a herd of wild horses, the theme might be each character dealing with a certain wildness in their nature or even past events that come back to haunt them.

How-To Submit a Main Plot and Theme

  1. Create a new topic using your OOC account.
  2. Fill out the form. We assume that titles are working titles and time frame might be a best guess or listed as TBD. These can be updated later.
  3. Add Group Mentions for both Admins, Players and Members. Notes: Members are those that have recently joined and do not have a character in play yet.
  4. Submit!

Choosing a Main Plot

  • Normally, Admin will review the choices and select two or three that suit the timeframe.
  • A poll will be added which allows players to express an interest in one of the three. If there's a tie, the Admins will vote (one vote).
  • Due to upcoming in-game events, the Admin will occasionally choose the next episode to be written.

Ending a Main Plot

  • Not all main plots can be completed within the timeframe of one episode.

  • When a new episode begins, the old one will be locked for new scenes.
  • After all scenes are marked complete (locked), the episode plot topic will also be locked.
  • The main plot topic will be moved to the Plot Archives.
  • Important! Main plots will only be deleted from the archives when its story has been concluded or it becomes apparent that the story has been abandoned.
