    • "We'll have to get on over to the dinning room them. Afraid it's liable to be a bit more like Kalispell than Frisco." He said. "But it'll be good food, just not what we've been used too. Will be up on the hill, for sure.  I was told this is the best hotel because it was a ways out across the river from town, and it was solid built."   "The wealth on the hill is such that all most everything around it is growing at a fast pace. You'll really see that when we visit the Capitol, Carson City. Supposedly discovered by Kit Carson and General John Freemont on their way to Sacramento in. At least Freemont named the river after him back in '43 or '44. Nothin' was there then."   "All that made me hungry too, let's go eat an then take us a walk across the river, or along it, which ever you want." @Bongo
    • That did not take long. Cookie rang the triangle and shouted his best but in the end he sent the kid to roust all but the closest to him. Rance joined young Wheeler in the line, a bit out of the wind, but mostly in it for the moment. It seemed calmer up by the wagon.   "That had ta be bad back there. The wind drivin' the dust an' the smell, but should this wind let up you'll be on flank, left flank, then right, then back to the drag. It'll be me, Dallas, an' Dixie. eatin' dust tomorrow. But at least we got hot grub, won't always be that'a way out here though, every trip is different."   And they moved up steadily. @Bongo
    • "Nothing to discuss? I am surprised, Jonah. Why, if we have time for breakfast, there will be much to discuss regarding the hospital as well as the start of the orphanage. Hopefully that the railroad will be completed, or close to it by then." She smiled brightly. "Things will be different by then."   "My hope is that we get through all of this without my fathers interference causing delays, or real problems with the builders. You know we could get well into October before the snow flies, but I'm not counting on that. The winter will stop construction until the thaw." She stated, but the smile was still there, "But it will be well underway!" @Bongo
    • "Pleased ta meet ya, Rance."  Justus gave the man a nod, then lined up with the others for grub.  Maybe he could get some sleep despite the wind.  He surely was tired enough, and until there was something that concerned him, he didn't need to be concerned.   First, though, a full belly!  As the line progressed, he he nodded to the kid who was the cook's help.  "Times like this, I bet yer glad ya don't have ta be on th' downwind end of a herd'a cows!"   @Flip
    • "It's good to know you'll have the best working on the project, you've come this far, you don't need to risk the quality with less than the best working on it."  Even though he had no doubt that the crew would be excellent, it was reassuring to know that the man hand picked for the job would actually be on site overseeing it.  That way, too, he'd be there if Leah needed to discuss anything with him, and Jonah had a good feeling that was going to happen!   He grinned and took a sip of coffee.  "Just think, this time next year it will all be over!  We'll have a fine hospital with the best equipment...and nothing to discuss over breakfast!"   @Flip

My Character Plans

Recommended Posts

I know I have a plotter up for Shade, but this is about bringing him back into the game along with some of my other characters. I do need to update his bio and write up the Lost Lake Ranch history. I originally had his Native American grandmother and family as Blackfoot. However, researching the tribe is rather a pain. I've always been so comfortable with the Navajo. I did a ton of research into them because I was fascinated with the Code Talkers. So, I will be updating Shade's bio when the mod is fixed to reflect Navajo heritage instead of Blackfoot and explain how a Navajo clan wound up in the Chogun Mtns. - our mythical mountain range where Lost Lake is located.

Prior to Custer's Last Stand, Shade received word that a member of his grandmother's Navajo clan was in serious trouble so he rode out to handle it. He has been away in the Four Corners area with the Navajo. When he rides back in, he will be accompanied by an uncle of sorts (one of Kimi Thornton's Navajo clan) named John Warbow.

Harriet Mercer has been in the east tending to her sister's wedding and the subsequent birth of her child (sister's, not Harriet's). She'll return about the same time as Shade.

Most of my other characters are supporting or NPCs.

I am not sure if I'll keep Hannah Cory or not. She may have moved away permanently or just been in the background quietly doing Hannah things.

I think the romance between school teacher Kate and Shade would be progressing slowly due to his working on the ranch and not getting into town much. Back then some romances/courting took a few years so it's okay they haven't made it to the real serious stage 😉

I'll have to determine how long Shade's actually been gone. I believe the Little Big Horn happened in April of '76 and Shade left prior to that. I'll see when the majority of events are happening and determine when he returns. I'm sure things will be a bit rocky as he rode out without notice except maybe to whoever was at the ranch and has been incommunicado ever since.

Yes indeed, that is the date of the battle. A lot of threads have had the town and characters well aware of the Custer defeat. August or September are good months to put threads in though!

Remember, fluid time!  We can be quite flexible and even lax on exact dates. Just dont put your char in two different places at the SAME time. And you'll be good.

Thanks, @Wayfarer

I'd like Shade to be back and run into people in the most active timeframe. Probably early September. That way, the game can use characters catching him up on events as a sort of mini-recap of "up-to-now". I'll work on his bio and get at least an NPC quality bio on John Warbow done shortly. I can always flesh Warbow out more as I go.  Figure he's able to tame even the wildest horse almost like magic.

Wow, I'm really out of it then, still in mid-July, but the Trip is really flex able, so that's no problem Need to get on the Wayfe-Javia Timeline here! LOl...

At least you can now move the hospital plot up to September and do some sort of catch up post for that.

I have updated Shade's timeline and changed his ancestry from Blackfoot to Navajo. I will get a history of Lost Lake Ranch written up soon to account for the Thornton family Navajo connections.

Short version, Josiah Thornton spent time with the Navajo while exploring in the southwest and married a Navajo woman. Eventually, he and his wife headed north and settled in the mountains of Lost Lake. Over time, Josiah did the whole finding gold and staking claims to the ranch, added other businesses and basically set the stage for the family's massive wealth.

I will do my best to get John Warbow's bio at least minimally fleshed out so Shade can get back into town.

I know, I just hate bending the rules.

No you won't be bending the rules...we relaxed some of them while you were away 😉

Yeah, I'll do a major clean-up on our character form's "field instructions" and even change which fields are absolutely required and which ones can be listed as option when you, I, and Wayfarer can meet up and chat about it.
